You Are Not Alone
Welcome to the first blog of Small Steps Everyday. As you have probably read on the "Home" page or on the "About" page, I started Small Steps Everyday as a way to help people who are in the same situation as me, caring and more importantly loving someone who suffers from mental illness. It is so easy to loose yourself when you are caring for another. You put your needs, concerns, and at times your health on the back burner until a time comes along when you can focus on yourself but you quickly realize that time never comes. You find yourself tired, worn out, frustrated, angry, sad, and worst of all, alone. You believe that others cannot understand how you feel, you believe others will judge you and your loved one, and the thought of sharing your story scares you. I am here to tell you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There at least 8.4 million Americans who provide care to an adult with an emotional or mental illness (NAMI). It is time for you to start taking care of you. You are the most important person in your life. If you are not well, if you are not cared for, if your are not healthy, you will not be able to be the person you need to be for yourself or for your loved ones. Make today the first day of taking care of you. I know it is hard to take of yourself without feeling guilty but change comes in Small Steps Everyday and I am here to help you and support you in that journey.
